Who is the Poetry Society of Tennessee Northeast Chapter?
Northeast Local Chapter - PST-NE:
The Poetry Society of Tennessee - Northeast (PST-NE) branch represents a group of authors dedicated to excellence in poetry writing. We strive continually to perfect our craft and welcome all those who share our desire to develop as poets. This branch chapter was created in February 2010. Local membership entitles members to attend and participate in the local PST-NE meeting and poetry readings on the 4th Saturday of the month and also attend and participate in any locally sponsored activities and events. Because PST-NE is affiliated with the state and national poetry organizations our members are also members on the state and national levels. Members of PST-NE will receive local, state and national publications and poetry contest rules and deadlines for these three organizations . All this for annual dues of $25! (Only $10 for students!) Be our guest, come to a meeting, share poetry with us, attend an event, learn about poetry and our organization firsthand. Please send dues directly to PST-NE using the application form. The state and national portions of the fee will be submitted to them.
Our affiliation with the state and national poetry organizations is as follows:
Tennessee's State Chapter - PST (www.tnpoetry.org)
Poetry Society of TN (PST) based in Memphis sponsors state member-only free monthly competitions with cash prizes. They also sponsor annual contests with reasonable fees and host an annual Mid-South Poetry Festival in October for a workshop. Contest winners are announced at that time. The Poetry Society of Tennessee (PST) at Memphis was chartered on June 30, 1953. It is recognized as Tennessee's state society in the National Federation of State Poetry Societies (NFSPS). PST's bimonthly Tennessee Voices Bulletin is included in the dues. An annual book publishes the first place winners of PST's annual contests and lists the poem titles and the poets' names placing in each of approximately 30 contests. The student contest recommends TN students who placed to be considered as entrants on the national level.
National Chapter - NFSPS (www.nfsps.com):
NFSPS was organized October 17, 1959. Membership in PST-NE also includes national membership. NFSPS distributes a quarterly newsletter named Strophes. This provides news and opportunities from the national and other state societies. The NFSPS Convention is held in June annually and hosted in a member state. Their website shows the available state links. The national affiliation offers even more opportunities for adult and student contest entries sponsored by NFSPS. These include individual poem contests as well as collections.
NOTE: Please send application and dues to the local chapter
