A SEASON TO CELEBRATE
In January 2010, Rose Klix and Janice Hornburg met to create what would become the Poetry Society of Tennessee—Northeast Chapter (PST-NE), a branch of Poetry Society of Tennessee within the National Federation of State Poetry Societies. The two were joined soon after by fellow charter members Todd Bailey, Jim Collier, Benjamin Dugger, Marlene Simpson, and John Summers. The first formal meeting was held February 13, 2010 in Gray, Tennessee.
This year we celebrate the many contributions that have led us through one decade and into another. Through this time, PST-NE leaders and chapter members have expanded opportunities to fulfill the society’s purpose as authors dedicated to excellence in poetry writing who strive continually to perfect our craft. We welcome all those who share our desire to develop as poets.
Today, our thirty-three members span a rich diversity of age, gender, cultures, and writing levels. At monthly meetings, carefully chosen speakers present key aspects of writing for lifelong students. Critique groups, contests, and other opportunities are available to help members develop as writers and to expand awareness and appreciation of poetry in our area.
The primary patterns of our society’s tapestry include personal encouragement and respect for each other as writers; a joy for the gifts of language; a high regard for the treasures of poetry from its frequent, light hearted spirit to its infrequent disclosures of secrets; and a desire to share this wealth across the region and beyond.
